Thieves Like Us

Thieves Like Us is a collaboration between Commercial Type (featured Edition Four) and designer and artist Dino Sanchez. This popup showroom will exhibit Marian, a new typeface by Paul Barnes that reduces classic models of serif type design to their basic skeletal forms, exploring the possibilities offered by these single stroke forms in a variety of media.
Marian is a collection of revivals. They are neither strict revivals for the designs are not accurate recreations, nor are they interpretations per se. Instead they reduce the historical models to the basic skeletal forms. Nine seriffed faces from the sixteenth to nineteenth century, all considered important designs, have been treated in the same fashion. Together they represent a concept: to recreate the past for the present.
